ATLANTA -- For this week's edition of Best Spots, we have compiled a list of best places to run for beginners, intermediate and advanced runners.

Recently, running has risen in popularity due to people discovering the different benefits it offers. Running has been proven to lessen stress, aid in weight loss and can serve as a method of meditation. According to the Seattle Times, 26.5 million people in the US run 50 days out of the year.

  • Beginners Routes

The Silver Comet Trail is known as “the only truly flat place you can run in Atlanta”. The trail starts near Mavell Road in Smyrna and runs all the way to the Georgia/Alabama line, near Cedartown and Esom. The trail is a favorite among runners searching for a leisurely stroll and good scenery.

BUFORD – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we've compiled a list of the best golf courses in for you to take a break and tee it off while the weather is nice.

The Hamilton Mill Golf Club is a favorite among many Atlanta golfers and is known for its “panoramic views, playable Bermuda grass fairways, undulating bentgrass greens and impeccable, year round conditioning”.

The course was designed by Fred Couples and Gene Bates. Members and guests enjoy the stunning par-72 course. The facility features a clubhouse with a Pro Shop and a conference room. It also features a practice center with 7,000-square-feet of bentgrass putting greens.   

Members can play 18 holes with cart at Hamilton Mill for $16-$60.

The Northwood Country Club facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia features 6,798 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par-71.

YMCA Centers are the nation’s largest provider of child care services and there are a number of YMCA centers around the metro area. According to their website, YMCA’s provide “family-centered, values-based programs” and they support the “physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of children”. Camp charges vary depending on if membership. Check them out online and find your neighborhood center.

Camp Twin Lakes is a network of camps around North Georgia that “provides life-changing camp programs for kids with serious illnesses, disabilities and other challenges and various state-of-the-art locations throughout the state”.

Gwinnett to hold mass swimming lesson at Bethesda Park Aquatic Center

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Mark your calendars because on Tuesday, June 14, Bethesda Park Aquatic Center will host “The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson”. Thousands of kids and adults will unite at aquatic centers around the world will unite to set a new global record.

Bethesda Park Aquatic Center has been selected as an Official Host Location for this 2011 WLSL record-setting event, taking place from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

According to Gwinnet Parks and Recreation, “the inaugural WLSL event established the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson ever conducted in 2010 when almost 4,000 participants across 34 states, five countries and 3 continents participated to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to prevent drowning.”

Participants in the event must be ages 6 years and older. Each participant will receive a World Record Breaker Certificate. Pre-registration is required and there is a $2.00 fee.
