Suwanee, Ga. -- Around 1:30 this afternoon, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit central Virginia.

Tremors were felt as far north as Toronto, as far west as Indianapolis and as far south as Metro Atlanta.

A Suwanee resident who lives on Winding Rose Lane in Suwanee had this to say about the effects of the quake:

I did feel the earthquake. I would describe the feel of it like sitting on a raft and small waves move you some. I fetl the last earthquake in GA 8-10 years ago and this one was a lot different. It lasted much longer though. My fireplace tools shook for ten mins.
