SUWANEE | Ivy Prep charter extension denied | Schools
SUWANEE, Ga. -- The Gwinnett County school board has denied a charter extension of Ivy Preparatory Academy's Gwinnett campus and rejected a proposed new location.
Thursday's decision came after a district charter review committee recommended against granting a five-year charter extension for the Gwinnett campus, according to a report in the Gwinnett Daily Post.
The committee cited what it called "significant deficiencies" including the school's financials and curriculum as well as its vision.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education gave Ivy Prep 30 days to submit a new proposal.
Ivy Prep is among more than a dozen Georgia charter schools, including Fulton Science Academy Middle School, that had to scramble to win approval from their local school boards or find ways to raise private money after a court ruling that the schools were not established legally.
