LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Horticulture students at Gwinnett Technical College will host a plant sale later this month and an edible sale next month.

The plant sale will be Apr. 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college's greenhouse.

Plenty of plant types will be sold, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs and house plants.

The edible sale will be May 7-9 and will feature fruits, vegetables and herbs.

"I know every year we say the plant sale gets better, but the greenhouse is spectacular. "There are more varieties than we have time to list, and I think our supporters will be pleased."

Cash and checks will be accepted at the sale; those wishing to use credit and debit cards will have to pay in the school's business office.

Gwinnett Tech brings bioscience to high school

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Forty North Gwinnett High School students recently got an up-close look at the field of bioscience, thanks to Gwinnett Technical College.

The Lawrenceville college's Life Sciences Center taught the high schoolers about careers in the fast-growing field.

Professors Herschel Meaders, Dr. Robert Powers, Dr. Mohammed Salameh and Dr. Saphronia Wallace guided the teens through different labs to give them a comprehensive view of bioscience.

"I really enjoyed touring Gwinnett Tech and learning about the different areas of bioscience and biotechnology," North Gwinnett student Anna Raye said. "My favorite session was Dr. Salameh's on protein research."

Gwinnett Tech's Life Sciences Center hosts numerous sessions for young learners throughout the year. Dr. Phil Gibson, director of the school's bioscience program, is currently creating labs for eighth graders at Moore and Sweetwater middle schools.
