Peachtree Ridge junior named Gatorade Ga. Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year

SUWANEE, Ga. -- A Peachtree Ridge High School student-athlete has been named the 2011-2012 Gatorade Georgia Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Junior Josh Brickell is the first Peachtree Ridge student to receive the honor.

The 5-foot-11-inch runner raced to his second consecutive Class AAAAA individual state championship this season with a time of 15:40:68, helping the Lions place fifth as a team. Brickell placed fourth in the Foot Locker South Regional championships and eighth at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.

Also a track standout, Brickell maintains a 4.0 GPA and volunteers on behalf of his church and Peachtree Ridge's chapters of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

"As a junior, Josh has proven to be one of those highly motivated athletes that will do whatever it takes to be successful," said Peachtree Ridge cross country coach Ron Clanton. "He always does the little things to prepare himself for the competition. In his training schedule, there are never any shortcuts to success. He has devoted himself to high academic and athletic standards. He has developed into a leader in the classroom and on the athletic field."
