Community members celebrate firefighters from Station 10

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- On Friday, the 11Alive Help Desk Team was invited to Fire Station 10 to visit with Gwinnett Fire Chief Bill Myers and other station firefighters following the Wednesday afternoon hostage station that involved four officers from the station.  The Help Desk had delivered a tribute of thanks to the firefighters signed by hundreds of Gwinnett residents.

In addition, thousands of other metro area residents showed support to the firefighters on the 11Alive Facebook page. 

The card, saluting the firefighters dedication, service and bravery now sits in the Station 10 briefing room.

Today, Chief Myers expressed his gratitude for all of the well-wishes and says safety for his men is top priority.

"Obviously Wednesday was one of the toughest days in my career and I think they 850 of us who come to work every day in Gwinnett County and have the backs of the citizens of Gwinnett County and those who travel through Gwinnett County-on Wednesday the citizens of Gwinnett County had our backs and that felt good," Chief Bill Myers said.
