Suwanee plant fined $88K by OSHA

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The Suwanee plant of a wooden pallet manufacturer has been fined $87,780 by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Charles Greer Lumber Co. has 15 business days to pay, request a conference with OSHA or contest the findings.

The company was fined $47,520 for five repeat safety violations and $6,600 for "failing to establish a program to test the hearing of workers exposed to loud noises," according to OSHA. The remaining $33,660 came from 11 serious safety violations, or violations that could result in death or major harm despite the employers' knowledge of them.

"Management must take a proactive approach to recognizing and eliminating workplace hazards that jeopardize the safety and health of employees," William Fulcher, director of OSHA's Atlanta-East Area Office, said in a statement.
