Chick-fil-A to host Daddy-Daughter Date Night

(WXIA) -- Chick-fil-A will bring back its popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night this weekend.

The fifth annual event will be Saturday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at participating restaurants.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night encourages fathers and their little girls to spend time together. Every "couple" will receive take-home booklets featuring conversation starters and ideas for future outings.

Attendees will also be treated to tableside service, limousine and trolley rides, and other surprises.

Daddy-Daughter Date Night is free, except for the cost of food. Seating is available every hour; fathers and daughters are encouraged to call their local Chick-fil-A locations in advance to reserve a time.

Blood donation opportunities: Gwinnett County

(WXIA) -- The American Red Cross needs blood donations and has provided healthy metro Atlanta residents with several opportunities to give.

Inclement weather and widespread flu have prevented many usual donors from giving, according to Red Cross spokesperson Kristen Stancil. Several blood drives will be held throughout the area this month to make up the difference.

The Red Cross especially needs blood types O negative, A negative and B negative.

To help customers create a cleaner, greener and healthier home, Pike Nurseries is hosting a FREE “Houseplants for a Healthy 2015” customer class at all garden center locations onSaturday, Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.

During the informational seminar, guests will learn about houseplant health benefits, popular plant options and proper care guidelines. With expert tips from Pike Nurseries, guests can keep their homes healthy and “green” all year-round!

Ga. SPCA to hold vaccination clinic

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will hold another low-cost vaccination event this weekend.

Rabies shots for dogs and cats will be only $12, as will distemper, parvo and Bordatella vaccinations.

The clinic will also offer $25 microchipping, $25 canine heartworm tests, $10 deworming and $15 nail trimming.

Appointments are not necessary; pets will be treated on a first come, first served basis. The SPCA asks that all dogs be leashed and all cats be in carriers.

ATLANTA -- The garden experts at Pike Nurseries are helping customers start 2015 off right with refreshed container gardens and houseplants.

On Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, Pike Nurseries will host Potting Party Weekend at all store locations. Gardeners of all levels are invited to bring an empty pot from home or purchase a new one, as on-hand associates help them plant indoor or outdoor container gardens, houseplants and terrariums.

Pike Nurseries will also provide complimentary Pike Potting and Container Soil and E.B. Stone Sure Start for pots planted in-store.

SUWANEE, Ga. -- If a half marathon is on your list of goals for 2015, Georgia will host several 13.1-mile races throughout the year.

The first-ever Suwanee Gateway Half Marathon will be Saturday, Jan. 31 at Town Center Park.

Runners will travel the Suwanee greenway, getting the best possible view of the city. Race organizers said the course has "a great mix of flat and hills, which will be fun for every type of runner." Finishers will receive technical T-shirts and medals.

ATLANTA -- Paperwhites and amaryllises are classic, beautiful flowers that show off the spirit of the season. To help customers grow their own holiday bulbs indoors and to ensure they will bloom just in time for Christmas, Pike Nurseries is hosting a free Forcing Paperwhite and Amaryllis Bulbs class.

On Saturday, Nov. 8 at 9 a.m., garden experts will offer step-by-step guidance to plant and care for these bulbs so they will display dazzling, festive blooms. After the class, guests can gather up the supplies and give their green thumbs a go at forcing bulbs to grow indoors with the help of Pike Nurseries garden experts.

The class will be offered at all Pike Nurseries locations.
