Teens sought in connection with Gwinnett house fire

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Gwinnett County Fire officials want to speak with two teens spotted near the scene of a fire at an abandoned house.

The fire broke out at around 6:40 p.m. Saturday at a structure in the 1900 block of Lawrenceville Suwanee Road. Crews were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls from neighbors.

The single-story house was completely engulfed when firefighters arrived. Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said it was not the first fire at the location, but the building was a total loss after Saturday's event. No one was hurt.

As the house had no utilities, Rutledge said investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.

Witnesses said they saw two young men walking away from the house as it burned. They described both men as about 15 years old and 5 feet 9 inches tall with brown hair. One was wearing a green T-shirt and blue jeans, while the other wore blue jeans and no shirt. They were last seen walking toward Covenant Life Church, across the street from the empty house.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Gwinnett County Fire at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.

Arson is a felony in Georgia; convicted arsonists face up to 20 years in prison.
