Suwanee Store Surprised of Selling a $200K Powerball Ticket on Sept. 8th

Atlanta, GA--  A Georgia Lottery retailer in Suwanee is surprised to have sold a winning $200,000 Powerball prize. Texaco Food Mart, located at 2161 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Suwanee sold a winning Quik Pik ticket from the Sept. 8 Powerball drawing.

“It’s such a great thing,” exclaimed Neal Patel, store owner and manager.

The winner, a Lawrenceville resident, matched the first five winning numbers in the drawing. Winning numbers from the Sept. 8 Powerball drawing were: 10-35-39-51-57 and the Powerball was 20.

“I want people to know that players in Georgia do win,” Patel said. “People might view this win as good luck.”

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $11.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

N. Gwinnett Wins 45-0, Drops Out of Massey Top 25

SUWANEE, GA -- North Gwinnett has dropped in the Massey Ratings for the second straight week despite winning their last two games.

Three weeks ago, North Gwinnett was not ranked in the Top 25 of the computer-generated Massey Ratings, but after a Bye Week, the Bulldogs climbed to 19th in the country.

Then, in Week Four, North Gwinnett beat Collins Hill 33-20 in a Region 7-5A matchup. Following that win, North Gwinnett slipped to 25th in the nation.

Local Business Owner Arrested for Selling Fake Chanel and Louis Vuitton

Atlanta, GA--  Vice Investigators from the Gwinnett County Police Department Special Investigations Section concluded an investigation concerning the sales of counterfeit merchandise, seizing counterfeit designer jewelry from a local business and arresting the business owner.  This investigation focused on Buy 'N Joy, 1291 Old Peachtree Road.  This is an address within an unincorporated area of Gwinnett County, associated with Suwanee.   

Detectives found that counterfeit designer merchandise was being sold, purported as real or genuine, from the business. During the course of the investigation, Undercover Detectives entered the business and were sold two pairs of earrings that proved to be counterfeit.  The earrings, displayed and sold as Chanel and Louis Vuitton earrings, had the general appearance of the genuine articles.

Gwinnett County Jail Inmates are Overcrowded Despite 360 New and Unused Beds

Atlanta, GA--  The Gwinnett County Jail is said to be overcrowded again, but this is even after a $78 million expansion that was completed in 2006.

The new expanded areas have not been opened by the Gwinnett Sheriff because he says he would have to hire 30 or more deputies to staff it.  At this time, he has decided to triple bunk 400 inmates and house others at a jail in Pelham due to the lack of funds for new hires and overtime.

Suwanee SPCA Celebrates the Expansion of its Pet Adoption Center this Saturday, Sept. 25th

Atlanta, GA--  The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Georgia SPCA) is celebrating the expansion and remodeling of its Pet Adoption Center at 1175 Hwy 23 (Buford Hwy) in Suwanee with an Open House for the public on Saturday, September 25. The event will take place from 11 AM - 7 PM and will include family entertainment, food, and an opportunity to meet athletes from the Atlanta Chiefs football team. Music, raffles, face painting and a moonwalk will add to the festivities, along with tours of the renovation. Dog trainers will be available to provide pointers on pet obedience, and the Georgia SPCA will microchip pets for a $25 donation.

Family of Eagle Scouts to be Honored by City Council

Atlanta, GA--  The City of Suwanee will honor the Bradham Family September 28 at their Council Meeting in Town Hall.  So many people have been inspired by this family of 6 Eagle Scouts as well as a Father and Grandfather Eagle Scout.  The City Council is going to declare that Wednesday, Sept. 29 2010 is "Bradham Eagle Scout Day" in the City of Suwanee.

In August 2010, all six of the the Brandham Family boys became Eagle Scouts when the last two (twins) were given the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor.  In addition the father and grandfather are also Eagle Scouts making a total of 8 in this Family.
